Beauty lies in the unique qualities that set each individual apart. So from the subtle nuances of lighting and camera techniques to the distinct features of my models, I amplify the unique.
Beauty products aren’t cover-ups for insecurities, they’re tools to discover yourself. Makeup and personal style is not about conforming to societal standards, they’re mediums for the radical, empowering act of self-expression.
For years, I photographed others while hiding from the camera myself, feeling disconnected from the beauty I was capturing. I perpetuated standards rather than challenged them and directly felt their toxic effects. Compared to the talent I was shooting, I didn’t feel “pretty enough” to engage with makeup.
I knew I had to aim higher than just adding to the endless stream of aspirational imagery. When I put my sole focus on reflecting the unique beauty of others back at them, I began to see beauty in myself too. I started to play. I started to shoot self-portraits. The pendulum swung in the opposite direction, and now I jump at the opportunity to be my own muse.
